Believe in the Dream
My name's Matt Miller and I'm running for Congress in New York's 13th District. I have some big ideas that tackle the mental health crisis, education reform, and wealth inequality at the deepest levels. The Left is all about vision and bold change. If we're not starting any new conversations then it's time for some fresh leadership.
The most important thing about me is that in my family I'm the fun uncle. I've got four nephews, two nieces, and another on the way. Job-wise I used be an advertising strategist where I organized brainstorms and figured out the best ideas. Now I work at Trader Joes because it's got a great culture and a laptop job just wasn't for me. My dad was born and raised in Washington Heights before his family moved into New Jersey. I moved into Harlem in 2020, worked locally, and served for a year as President of my block association.
Now with my own faith in the mythic power of the American Dream I want to help equip and empower every American to live a fulfilling life on their terms. And I want to use that American audacity to stand up to the greedy and the bullies that think they can run the world unopposed. My campaign is focused on progressive ideas that empower individuals. We need to bring a new spirit to the political conversation on the Left and I'm the guy to make that happen.
D.A.D. - the Department of the American Dream
Problems
- The mental health crisis has turned Americans to addiction and authoritarianism
- Our education system doesn’t prepare Americans for the 21st century
- A.I. is ruining learning further, and with automation erases a predictable job market
- The Right continually attacks the social safety net for fostering dependency
- Wealth inequality erodes our democracy and exacerbates the cost of living crisis
Approach
- Reimagine education for the 21st century to continually renew hope and cultivate a positive relationship with our Government and national culture
- Make the social safety net bouncier - educate and empower recipients to build wealth on their terms and not remain dependent
- Protect the freedom to dream and create for all Americans, not just the wealthy
Solution
- DAD - the Department of the American Dream will oversee a monthly American Dream Allowance to citizens 18+ below a wealth limit. Recipients get $250 per month that can only be spent on lessons, coaching, tutoring, etc. The transactions will be overseen like SNAP.
- We'll pay for it with current subsides used for the 'college-for-all' approach as well as a new American Dream Wealth Tax. "REAL trickle down economics" will equip citizens to become more productive members of the market, not just consumers.
- Beyond learning job skills recipients will be able to build healthy habits and explore passions for a holistic approach to wealth and health
The World Federation
Problems
- Wealth inequality is the underlying reason our democracy doesn't work for regular people, the rich have too much power and influence
- The economy of the world is interconnected and has escaped the reach of individual nations to regulate and tax it
- All progressive causes are an uphill battle. We can't fight a world's worth of money with one country's worth of people
- Fascists and dictators abuse human rights with no consequences
- We can't organize a combined effort against climate change
Approach
- Unify the democratic societies to counter the oligarchs and dictators that run the current world of international anarchy
- Unite the Left with a focused long-term vision that will make all their other causes more possible
Solution
- Renew the movement from last century to create a democratic World Federation. This institution would have real authority and actually be democratic, representing individuals, not just nations
